Honorable Dr. Orville Howard Phillips was a dental surgeon and politician. Orville joined the RCAF during WWII, serving with the 426 Thunderbird Squadron. Son of Maude Phillips and J. Sanford Phillips, he graduated from Prince of Wales College and received his DDS from Dalhousie University in 1952. He married Marguerite Woodside in 1945 and raised 4 children: Brian, Betty Phillips-Simpson, Robert and Patricia Phillips-Ryan. In 1957 he was elected to the Canadian House of Commons as a member of the Conservative Party. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) until 1963. In 1963, he was appointed to the Canadian Senate and was the last senator serving in the Senate who was appointed for life. He chose to resign from the Senate in 1999.
