Maggie was born in Iowa and raised on her parent's Perry, Iowa farm along with a sister Mary who died at age six and her two brothers Norman and Ray. In the late 1940s she moved to the Northwest where she worked for the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) in the Accounting Department. At BPA she met Ernest E. Hake. They were married in her hometown of Perry, Iowa on October 7, 1950 and then returned to Vancouver, Washington where they made their home. Bud and Maggie retired from BPA after thirty year careers and spent many more years in Vancouver until 1997 when they moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to be near Maggie's relatives.
