Family is enumerated on the 1860 census of Marion County, Georgia.
Buster Wright's "Burials and Deaths Reported in the Columbus (Georgia) Enquirer [Newspaper], 1832-1872" (1984), p. 505, shows: Dr. J. W. [sic - H.] WHITTLESEY, the City Physician, died 25 OCT 1868 in Columbus, Georgia (published 27 OCT 1868).
Mary Jane Galer's list of persons buried in the Old Cemetery section of Linwood shows: J. H. WHITTLESEY died aged 50 years; buried 26 OCT 1868. [The location where the grave is currently marked is not in the Old Cemetery section. That designation is perhaps a mistake, or the grave could have been reinterred to its present lot, although there does not appear to be an account of such in the Sexton's record.]
Richard H. L. Chichester, III (Contributor #46953186) reports that Jabez Hamlin is the son of Jabez WHITTLESEY (1786-1850) & Nancy (PARKER) WHITTLESEY (1787-1853) & provided links to their memorials; he also submitted the following:
