Van Duren, Marilyn

My Aunt Marilyn Van Duren went to be with the Lord on October 4, 2016.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Reverend John Van Duren.

She is survived by R James Van Duren (Cindy), Nancy R Deuel (Dave) and Rebecca Van Duren, seven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

Marilyn was born in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania on January 27, 1930 to E_Raymond_Page and Pearl_Ainey_Page .

She was the second of four children, sisters Janet Page (Hartt), Ann Page (Lewis) and preceded in death by her brother, Miller Page.

Marilyn grew up on her parents' dairy farm in Jackson, Pennsylvania. At age ten, while attending summer camp at the Montrose Bible Conference, she dedicated her life to full-time Christian ministry. She graduated as salutatorian of her high school class in New Milford, Pennsylvania at age 16 and later graduated from Mansfield State University as a music major. After graduating from Mansfield State University she enrolled in the Providence Bible Institute in Providence, Rhode Island. She graduated from Providence Bible Institute in 1951. Marilyn met John in 1950 and they were married August 25, 1951. On September 3, 1953, John, Marilyn, and eleven month old son Jim (Raymond James Van Duren) left for Nigeria, West Africa aboard the S.S. African Pilgrim, a freighter ship. Becky (Rebecca) and Nancy were born in Jos, Nigeria. John and Marilyn spent 4 1/2 years in Nigeria doing missionary work and returned to the United States on December 19, 1957. Marilyn was an elementary classroom teacher and music teacher for many years at Newfield Central School in Newfield, New York. She also served alongside her husband as he pastored in several churches. Marilyn ministered as choir director, organist, pianist, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School director, youth group leader and she hosted many dinners in their home for missionaries and lay people.

Marilyn was very proud of her family. She loved her children and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren and faithfully prayed for each one.
