Our loving husband, father and grandfather, Raymond Abeare was called home Sunday morning with his family at his side after a brief illness.

Ray was born on October 10, 1934 to the late Chester and Irene (Beaujean) Abeare and was a lifelong resident of Bay City. In August, 1959 he married Carol Eigner and she predeceased him in July of 1966. He married Barbara Maciejewski on October 15, 1968 and she survives him.

Ray was honorably discharged from the US Army after being stationed in Alaska.

He worked for Jennison Hardware for several years and then for John Hancock Insurance Company and American United Life Insurance Company. He worked the majority of his life at First of America Bank in security and retired from there in 1995. Not one to sit still for very long, he then went to work part-time at Duncan's Outdoor Shop where he was employed at the time of his passing.

Ray was a member of St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, their League of Catholic Men and Women, the National Rifle Association, the Linwood Bay Sportsman's Club, and a former Sheriff's Reserve Deputy. Ray was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and so enjoyed the peace and tranquility he experienced sitting in his deer blind. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and took great joy in being a part of their lives.

In addition to his loving wife, Barb ('Doll'), Ray is survived by two daughters and their families Debbi Abeare-Jacobs and her husband, Jeff Jacobs and their children, Tara Lijewski & Hayley Jacobs, and Julie and Ken Marsh and their daughter, Makenna Marsh, and by his son-in-law, Christopher Goodnight. He is also survived by his brother, Ron and Carol Abeare and his sister, Donna and Erwin Kaznowski and special sister-in-law, Sue and Gary Sauer.

Also surviving are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Tom & Carole Maciejewski, Bud & Betty Maciejewski, Mike & Joanne Maciejewski, John & Judy Maciejewski, Lee & Diane Eigner, Donna & Russ Herzberg, Jim & Nancy Eigner, Ken & Marguerite Eigner, Mary & Martin Santhony and Marge Eigner, several nieces and nephews.

Ray was predeceased by his daughter, Tammie Goodnight and grandsons, Grant Goodnight and Nathan Marsh, as well as his mother & father-in-law, Phyllis & Leo Eigner, Paul & Irene Maciejewski, and his brother, Chester W. Abeare.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the nursing staff at Bay Medical Center, especially Karen, Deb and Joan in the 'unit' and to Cheri and Stella on 3 East, as well as Drs. Bruck, Ali, Joshi, Summers & Joseph.

There will be brief prayers at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Thursday, July 1, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. from St. Hedwig Church. Fr. Kevin Kerbawy will celebrate Mass with military honors to follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, under the auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council.

Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home on Wednesday from 1:00 to 4:00 & 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., and Thursday after 10:00 a.m. A Parish Vigil Service will take place Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. from the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Hedwig Church or Bay Area Catholic Schools.
