Lebanon Police this morning were sifting through “a tremendous amount of information” in an effort to uncover any solid leads in the strangulation death of Albert Rivera, 18, Lebanon, whose unclothed body was found on a N. 10th Street sidewalk early Saturday. Dr. Robert Kline, county coroner, ruled after an autopsy Sunday that Rivera died of “asphyxiation by ligature” (rope or binding). Rivera’s body was discovered by a pedestrian at 119 N. 10th St. at about 1:42 a.m. Saturday. A police investigation of the death began minutes after the body was discovered, with authorities chalking an outline of the body on the sidewalk where it lay, and taking photos and measurements. Later in the day, police returned to the neighborhood, asking questions and searching back yards and trash cans for the victim’s clothing, a weapon, or other clues. Detective Bernard Reilly said this morning that other than the results of the autopsy report; police have nothing new to report on the case. “We’re running down leads,” Reilly said. “The men are scattered all over the city, checking it out. We may have something later today, but for now we’re just sifting through a tremendous amount of information. We’ve had a tremendous response from the public and we’re screening the information.” Reilly said the investigation is confined to Lebanon. Lebanon police detectives, the county detective bureau and the district attorney’s office are involved in the investigation. District Attorney Robert W. Feeman also reported no new leads the is morning. Rivera, youngest of nine brothers and sisters, was a son of Maria Colon, 111 N. 14th St., Lebanon, and Aquilino Rivera, Ponce, Puerto Rico. He was born in Ponce. He attended the Church of the Latter Day Saints, Lebanon, and was a student at the Adult Education Center. He was planning to attend the International Fine Arts College in Florida this fall. In addition to his parents, Rivera is survived by sisters and brothers, Nelly, wife of Miguel Tirado, Lebanon; Juan, Maximino, Raul, and Miguel, all of Lebanon; Carmen Rivera, Florida; Caridad, wife of Vernon Yeagley, Lebanon; and Edith Rivera, Ponce, Puerto Rico.
