Robert Gordon Abbott (Waddie Bob)

Sherman- Robert (Waddie Bob) Abbott was born Saturday, June 24, 1939, in Dallas, Texas to Gordon and Louise (Labenski) Abbott and passed from this life after a brief illness on Monday, September 26, 2016 in Beacon Hill at Denison, Texas at the age of 77.

Robert was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas and attended the University of North Texas. He married Vicki Flowers on August 28, 1959 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Dallas. They had just celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. They came to Sherman in 1969 working with Texas Instruments and retired from Raytheon in 1994 after 34 years. Robert then went to work for Techni-Tool as a consultant and outside salesman in Rowlett, Texas.

Robert joined the Army as an active Reservist and in 1961 was called up to be ready for deployment during the Berlin crisis. He served on the first Sherman Police auxiliary for several years. He was very faithful as a member of Trinity Baptist Church for 38 years and served as a teenage boys Sunday school teacher and Men’s Sunday school class teacher. He was currently an active member of Fairview Baptist Church and member of the Adult II Sunday School Dept.

Robert loved his family, he especially enjoyed attending gun shows with his oldest son Robert, and hunting dove with his youngest son Chris. He also enjoyed cowboy action shooting with his middle son Jeff, and going shopping with his daughter, Robin. He loved going to sports activities that his grandchildren participated in. Robert made a dulcimer instrument with his hands. He was also a knife and gun collector.

Robert was a Christian and loved God and his church, wife, children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Abbott; in-laws Nell and Bill Flowers; aunt Mary Lou Muether; cousin Jim Muether and nephew Jeffrey Flowers also best friends Mark Steele and Sid McClane.

Robert is survived by his wife Vicki of Sherman; mother Louise Abbott of Sherman; sons Robert Abbott, Jr. (Carole) of Frisco, Jeff Abbott (Stormy)of Colbert, OK, Chris Abbott of Denison, and daughter Robin Mrozinski of Sherman; brother Stanley Abbott (Diane) of New Braunfels; grandchildren Jordyn Wilson (Jared) of Prosper, Jon Abbott of Frisco, Lauren Abbott of Savannah, TX, Chase,Brandtley Abbott of Denison and Kaytlyn Hensley; step-grandchildren Skylar Phillips of Colbert and Chloe Dodson of Pottsboro; and a great-grandchild Brayden Oliver Wilson of Frisco; brother-in-law Bill Flowers (Linda) of Garland; family friends Alena Abbott, Keri Abbott, John and Marian Work.

Services to celebrate Robert’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, Sept. 29, in Waldo Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Chris Moses, Rev. Reid Kirk, and Rev. Bill Whitehead, serving as Officiants. Interment will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7-8:30 PM at Waldo Funeral Home.
