A Life Remembered ~ Robert Mackellar Jr.

The following information was contributed by Carole Nurmi Cummings, a Dutch descendant from the 1600s and a cousin.

ROBERT MACKELLAR JR. RETIRED VETERINARIAN

Dr. Robert MacKellar Jr., 95, Clifton, New Jersey, died Sept. 1 in Cedar Grove (New Jersey) Manor Nursing Home, where he had been a resident for about two weeks.

Dr. MacKellar practiced veterinary medicine in New York City until his retirement.

Born July 14, 1904, in New York City, son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert S. MacKellar Sr., he attended the Peddie Preparatory School, Hightstown, New Jersey, and was a 1928 graduate of Cornell University Veterinary College, Ithaca. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He married Mary Humphrey of Lowville on Dec. 26, 1940, in Lowville with the Rev. O. Theodore Anderson officiating. She died in 1983. He married Angeline Lorenzini Meda, widow of Louis F. Meda, on Feb. 1, 1986, in St. Peter's Church with the Rev. Bernard Christman officiating.

Dr. MacKellar was a member of Upper Montclair (N.J.) Presbyterian Church.

Surviving besides his wife, who now lives in Lowville, are two daughters, Janet MacKellar Iverson, Napa, Calif., and Susan MacKellar, Clifton; two stepsons, Dr. Stephen Meda, Toronto, and Anthony Meda, Chicago; two stepdaughters, Mary Meda Remsky, Boca Raton, Fla., and Christine Meda Weingarten, Walnut Creek, Calif., four grandchildren and seven step grandchildren.

Burial was in Rockland County Cemetery, Sparkill. Arrangements were with Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home.
