Charles, 90, of Chelsea, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at Legacy Assisted Living in Jackson. He was the son of Harry D. and Ida (Manning) Burgess.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, where he enlisted and served overseas in World War II and re-enlisted during the Korean War.

He worked at the Chrysler Proving Grounds for 31 years and retired in 1983. He did zoning inspections for both Lima and Sylvan Townships and served two terms as Sylvan Township Supervisor. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 31 in Chelsea and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea, and had served on the Finance Committee.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann Burgess in 2015.

Surviving are his children: Robert (Mary Helen) Burgess, Ann Marie (Clifford) Markle, and William Burgess (Dianne Kuhl), and four grand children: Michael, Mary Regina, Mary Anne (Lucas), and Alice.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, September 19, 2016, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Chelsea, with the V. Rev. Dr. William J. Canon Turner officiating. Burial followed at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Chelsea.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Louis Center, Chelsea.
