Captain Robert Louis Poynter, III of the University Park Fire Department was called home to be with the Lord on September 9, 2016 in Royse City, Texas at the age of 47.

Captain Poynter was born in Utica, Michigan on April 30, 1969 and was the son of Robert Louis Poynter, Jr. and Mary Candice (Groh) Habersack. He was a graduate of the Frisco Fire Academy and started his career as a fireman with the University Park Fire Department and remained with the same department for 18 years.

Captain Poynter was a hardworking man, always giving his very best in everything he set out to accomplish. He was loyal. He was ever-ready, no matter what the situation presented. He loved serving the citizens of Dallas and belonging to his brotherhood of firemen.

If you knew Captain Poynter, you knew that as much as he held his department in high regard, there was one rank that was higher than Captain, and that was "Dad". He was a loving father and oh how he loved his three girls. They were his world. At any given time whether it be him doing the talking or someone else talking about his girls, his eyes lit up and a smile was on his face. His girls knew they were loved and cherished by their dad.

He leaves behind his three daughters, Nicole Diane Poynter of Sanger, Natalie Elizabeth Poynter of Sanger, and Addison Grace Poynter of Royse City, his mother and step-father Candy and Mark Habersack of Henderson, NV, his father and step-mother Bob and Merry Poynter of Flower Mound, three sisters Cheryl Ann Collar of East Aboga, AL, Jennifer Lynn Poynter-Willis of Henderson, NV, and Marga Michelle Rohlf of Fort Worth, two brothers, Ryan Ignacio Martinez of Fort Worth and Scott Andrew Poynter of Flower Mound.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the University Park Fire Department, 3800 University Blvd, Dallas, Texas. A memorial service honoring Captain Poynter will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 3821 University Blvd, Dallas, Texas. Rev. Dr. L.
