Memorial services to celebrate the life of Joan Beeks, 81, a resident of Davenport, will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2016 in the All Faith Chapel at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 N. Main Street, downtown Davenport. Inurnment will take place in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. Keeping with her wishes, cremation rites have be accorded. Joan died Friday, September 9, 2016 at her home in Davenport.

Melva Joan Stinger was born on July 20, 1935 in Iowa City, a daughter of Melvin and Elsie (Bailey) Stinger. She was united in marriage to Clinton E. Beeks on December 12, 1954 in Iowa City, together they raised two children.

Joan retired from the Clarissa C. Cook Home in Davenport in 2010 after over 25 years of service as a cook.

She was an excellent cook, as made evident by making a career out of it. She made the best potato salad around town. Joan loved being around her family, watching her beloved Chicago Cubs, doing crossword puzzles and cryptoquotes, and trying her luck at scratch off tickets.

Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society where Joan was an avid donor.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Dan Niemi, Davenport, a son and daughter-in-law, Marty and Sally Beeks, Nichols, Iowa; grandchildren: Erin Niemi, Davenport, Danny (Kristin) Niemi, East Moline, Becky (Dennis Caviola) Beeks, Silvis, and Jason (Melissa Brandmeyer) Beeks, Rock Island; 7 great-grandchildren; and a dear friend and neighbor who took great care of her, Roy Washam.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her step – father, Harold Ehmsen, her step-mother, Dorothy Stinger, sisters, Carol Stinger and Helen Benton, and a brother, Melvin Stinger.
