Scientist. Born Leon Laizer Watters in Clarion, Utah, he was the first chemist to demonstrate the uses of liquid air and contributed work on colloidal properties of proteins. He is most noted as the developer of sterile catgut used in surgery and medical work. He also is the author of "The Pioneer Jews of Utah: Studies in American Jewish History" (1952).
