Melvin Aaston passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2007 at the age of 81 years after his long bout with Alzheimer's disease. He was born and raised in Aneroid, SK.
He was predeceased by his parents Reinert Reinertson Aas in 1971 and Emma Karoline Aas in 1975, and his loving wife Patricia in 2004.

Melvin is survived by his two sons and from his previous marriage two daughters and a son. He is survived by his sister-in-law Eunice (Jack) Heshka of Regina. Also survived by nine grandchildren.

In 1943, he fought in World War II with the Canadian Army. On his return home, he went to the University of Saskatchewan and received a B.E. in Agricultural Engineering in 1949. He was employed with the Canadian Department of Agriculture PFRA (1949-1979); the Saskatchewan Water Corporation for 10 years after he retired from the PFRA. In 1956, he represented Canada at the International Grassland Conference in Auckland, New Zealand. Assigned to Australia on a pre-conference fact finding mission relative to irrigation techniques and special land development equipment for possible use in Western Canada. In 1975, he was sent to Pakistan by the Canadian Department of Agriculture to investigate and report on land improvement relative to erosion control, research projects required and engineering training requirements at the University level.
Melvin loved his retirement years - fishing, playing with his grandchildren and especially his Norwegian delight, lutefish and lefsa that his wife Patricia used to cook up for him every Christmas Eve.
