Gena Marie Knapp, age 48, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at ThedaCare Appleton. Gena was born on October 16, 1967 to Leon Knapp and Cynthia Shepardson Polcyn in Milwaukee. Gena Marie was a very special, beautiful young lady, who had hundreds of friends. She made everyone smile. Everyone loved to hug “Miss Gena Beans”. Even though her life was met with tragedy when she was only 13 months old, she lived her life to the fullest. Gena attended many Packer games, flew the skies to tropical islands and attended all of her brother’s weddings, with the look of pride and love in her heart, as she danced with them. But watch out! If you were not looking, she would steal your mug of beer!

Gena is survived by her mother, Cynthia and stepfather, Donald Polcyn; her father, Leon Knapp and step-mother, Cheryl Gustafson; brothers, Shannon (Anna) Knapp and their children, Dalton and Heather, Scott Knapp and Kristopher (Natasha) Knapp and their children, Tanner and Chase; aunts, uncles, cousins, Lester Shepardson and family, Royal (Bud) Shepardson and family, Twila Heidemen/Beyer and family, Donna Griffin and family, John Knapp and family, Robert Knapp family and Bernice Reeck and family. A special thanks to Bernice and Jerry for being wonderful Godparents. She is also survived by special friends, Tammy Sandavol and April Church and the staff at Clarity Care in Manawa.

Gena was preceded in death by her grandparents, Leland and Esther (Nagreen) Shepardson and Albert and Madeline (Weber) Knapp, and a sister Julie Ann Knapp.

A funeral service for Gena will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London. Visitation will take place on Monday, August 29, 2016 from 4-7 p.m. and again on Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bear Creek.

A special thank-you to Tammy Sandoval for being Gena’s caregiver, second mother, best friend for 17 years and being by her side in her final days. Also, Summer and the staff at Clarity Care in Manawa for the last 4 months, ThedaCare Regional Appleton, including the ICU staff, where she met another Gina and Comfort Care & Hospice.
