Mrs. Vercie Mae Burks passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 at her residence. Age 54 years. Vercie was born August 14, 1962 in Saginaw, Michigan to Horace and Bernice Morris.

Vercie attended Saginaw Public Schools, graduating from Ruben Daniels. She shared her talents as the cheerleading coach of Heavenrich Elementary School. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church under the leadership of The Very Reverend Judith Boli. Vercie soon married the love of her life, Cleveland “Tokey” Burks who escorted her to Columbus, Ohio. In Columbus, Vercie ran her own home childcare under “Vercie’s Childcare”. She was very successful for over 10 years, and voted the #1 Home Childcare for the state of Ohio. She loved children and cooking. She was known as the “neighborhood mom”. Vercie was always the life of the party. She loved roller-skating, dancing, and spending time with her family. She lived for her family. They even followed her to Ohio.

She leaves to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, Cleveland M. Burks; two daughters, Sparkle Davis and Demruse Burks; one step-daughter, Tokeshia Stephens; two granddaughters, Miracle and Rae’Niyah Edmonds; her mother, Bernice Morris; two brothers, Derrick and Vance Morris; an abundance of nieces and nephews including special nieces, Demruse Washington-Phillips and Markasha Hall; a special sister, Catina Lynn; best friend, Beverly Vaughn-Holiday; many other relatives and friends including special friends, Donna Jordan, Demetrius “Twista” Smith, Ronda Smith, Kimberly Wilson, Larry Wilson, and her dog, “Coco Burks”.

Vercie was preceded in death by her father, Horace Morris, one brother, Ray Washington; four sisters, LaWanda Jones, Leatrice Martin, MaDonna Morris, JoAnn Washington; grandmother, Eddie Lee Rice; grandfather, Marvin Kenneybrew; uncle, Clearance Rice, two aunts, Leatrice Rice, Luella Pearson; two grandsons, Tavarish Brown, Malikye Davis; and her godmother, Susie Cummings.

The family would like to express special thanks to the Covenant Cooper Healthcare staff and Dr. Nayak, staff at University of Michigan Hospital, and her hospice nurses.
