Veda Marie Beckman, 74, of Pleasant Dale, Nebraska, passed away from injuries received in an auto accident on Monday, August 22, 2016, in rural Malcolm, Nebraska. She was born on October 14, 1941, the daughter of Fred William Herman and Alma Gesina (Luetjen) Lemler in Higginsville, Missouri.

Veda graduated from Alma High School in Alma, Missouri and then attended Concordia Teacher College, earning her BS Degree in 1967. On November 30, 1974, Veda was united in marriage to Mervin Beckman at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Veda was involved in her husband's farming operation in both Seward County, Nebraska and Hughes County, South Dakota. She was a substitute teacher for 15 years in Lincoln, Malcolm and Pleasant Dale schools. She also worked from home as a cake decorator, caterer and professional candy maker. She was a Wilton Cake Decorating Instructor and a member of Wilton Instructor's Hall of Fame.

Veda worked in the activities department at Sunrise Country Manor and in resident services at Heartland Park Estates when it originally opened. She was also a manager of the Seward Senior Center. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, Nebraska and St. John Ladies Aid, for which she served as Banquet Chairman, Secretary, Vice President and President. She was a member of and also served as president of Seward Zone LWML.

She also served as Vice President for Christian Growth of Nebraska District South. She was a member of the Concordia Guild and raised scholarship funds for Concordia University by decorating cakes ordered by parents of students to celebrate their special occasions.

She is survived by: brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Nancy Lemler; brother, Larry Lemler; sister and brother-in-law, Ruthie and Monte Lauderdale; sister-in-law and husband, Patty (Bledsoe-Lemler) and Ray Hartwigsen; niece, Kimberly Sue and Harold Skinner, and family, Megan, Heather and Ashley (Kenny) Sargent and Anna; nephew, Terry Lemler and family, Jared, Jaycee Jabrianna, Rachel, Jesse, Brody; niece, Lisa Lemler; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Janet and James E. Duffek; sister-in-law, Betty Fehlhafer; nieces and families, Amy (Mark) Avery, Gavin and Maddie, Jennifer Duffek Hermesen, Ryne and Calder.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Fred and Alma Lemler; husband, Mervin Beckman; brother, Frederick Lemler; parents-in-law, Herbert and Ella (Ahlschwede) Beckman; brother-in-law, Wayne Fehlhafer.

Funeral Service on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward, Nebraska. Interment in the Seward Cemetery.
