Thomas Clark Oden, Jr.

Dec. 21, 1956 - Aug. 19, 2016 OKLAHOMA CITY, OK

Thomas Clark Oden Jr., husband of Jeanne and resident of Oklahoma City, died unexpectedly on August 19, 2016 at age 59. Though he was born in Connecticut in 1956 and also lived in Germany, Texas and New Jersey, Clark was nothing but an Oklahoman. As a boy, he had an uncanny knack for understanding how complex things operate, and as that passion grew into a career, it took him from a rural Oklahoma radio station to the oil fields of the Southwest to an electrical engineering degree at OU and a P.E. license. In fact, if you've ever landed safely at Will Rogers World Airport or used a Seagate drive without a hitch, Clark is partially to thank.Clark could read and analyze data easier than most people pull on their pants. When severe weather approached, family, friends and even mere acquaintances begged for his unbiased "KLRK" weather updates.

Clark was a devout believer in jazz as the ultimate coalescence of art and technology, and he loved it. His passion for audio and never-ending quest to find the perfect set of speakers left a trail of dead coils and burned cones in his wake. And his knowledge of everything automotive provided a valuable resource to his family and friends, occasionally left an unprepared car salesman in tears, and fueled a lifelong love affair with open-wheel auto racing.A marvelous writer and master storyteller, Clark's dry wit and fascination with the ordinary and the extraordinary never failed to entertain those fortunate enough to receive them.To Clark, the glass was never half empty or half full. It was just always twice as big as it needed to be. But when he met and married his soulmate Jeanne in 1993, his glass overflowed. Suddenly the full-time stepfather to three school-aged kids, Clark resolved to engineer a family structure and atmosphere guaranteed to nurture and grow their young minds. And it worked.Clark is survived by wife Jeanne, daughter Amy and her husband Steve and their daughter Grace, son Cory and his wife Ashley and their two children Liam and Allie, and daughter Mary and her husband Nick. He is also survived by his father Thomas C. Oden Sr., brother Ed and sister Laura, and a large extended family. Clark leaves a vacuum in the lives of all who loved him, but if ever there was a man who could repair a vacuum?Clark would be embarrassed at this level of attention, but nonetheless, services and a celebration of his life will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection (13112 N. Rockwell, OKC). Together we'll remember Clark on Saturday, August 27, at 2PM.And every day after that.
