Colonel Babb was a graduate of Lindisfarne College in Ruabon, Wales, Georgia Military College, Wofford College, and the University of South Carolina School of Law. He was third generation lawyer in the Babb family, following the tradition of his father and grandfather. His chair in his office at Babb and Babb, Attorneys in Laurens, SC, was that used by his grandfather when he was in practice.

He was the son of Thomas "Buck" Babb and the former Miss Doris Fontaine. He was married twice. His first wife was Vonnie Cantrell, daughter of Volney Chesterfield Cantrell and Zullie Walker. They had a son, Thomas Chesterfield Babb. Mr. Babb married Hollie Dixon Pearson.

The picture to the left commemorates the ceremony honoring Robert Edgar Babb. The ceremony was held by the University School of Law upon opening their new facility. The book on the table was opened to the page honoring the senior Babb. Each day a page is turned so each page is on display for a day at intervals during the year.

Pictured left to right: Thomas Fontaine Babb, Mrs. Alice Alexander, Robert Edgar Babb, Jr., Miss Sara Amanda Babb, Mrs. Beatrice "Bee" Babb Bradley, Thomas Adams Babb, Mrs. Laura Babb Zimmerman. Robert, Jr., Bee, and Thomas Adams Babb were siblings, Miss Sara was their paternal aunt, and Miss Laura, their cousin. Mrs. Alexander was legal secretary to three generations of Babb attorneys.

Babb -

I love and miss you so. You were gone before I could tell you one more time.
