ROSE MARIE DERRY BYNAM was born on July 23, 1934 in Houston, Texas to Lucinda Lastee Derry and Lawrence Derry. After a lengthy illness, on Wednesday, November 22, 2006, Rose was graced into the open arms of the Lord. Rose graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1952 and received the Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Prairie View A&M College Prairie View, Texas in 1956. She served as a special education teacher and ultimately, as special education coordinator at Woodson Middle School, HISD, retiring in December 2000, after twenty-eight years of service. Rose Maries Colonel (retired) Holland Bynam on February 20, 1960 and to this union, three children were born: Christa Marie, Anderson Eldridge and Susan Mignon. Rose and her family joined Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church. Rose later joined Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a member for over sixteen years. Rose was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., actively serving in the Houston Metropolitan Alumnae Chapter. She was also a member of National Women of Achievement, and faithfully served in the Women's Guild and the Courtesy Corp at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. Rose was preceded in death by her mother, Lucinda Lastee Derry; father, Lawrence Derry; and brother, Lawrence Derry. Jr. Rose leaves to cherish her beautiful memory her loving, three devoted children: Christa Bynam; Anderson (Lisa) Bynam; and Susan Bynam; devoted sister Mary Guidry; nephews, Darryl (Shari) Guidry and Keith Bynam; niece, Sheridan Guidry; uncle, Marion Lastee; and a host of other family members and friends.
