Hazel J. Meek was born Oct. 19, 1896 in Spokane, WA. , the daughter of Sylvius Victor Meek (b. 1864, W. VA) and Laura J. Meek (b. 1872, WA). Her siblings included Winnie Meek (b. abt 1891), Ray Meek (b. abt 1893), Lora Meek (b. abt 1896), and Wayne Meek (b. abt 1898) per the 1900 Federal Census.

Although she attended Normal School (a college for training future teachers), she was employed long-term as a saleswoman for J.C. Penny.

She was residing at E 1603 Illinois Ave., Spokane, WA at time of her marriage to Milton Julius Rhodes "Dusty", son of Willis Milton Rhodes and Florence Grace Normington-Rhodes, on 4 Sept. 1918 in Kootenai Co., ID.

From this union came a single child, son Stanley Wayne Rhodes (b. 5 May 1924 WA, d. 28 June 1984, Union City, Hudson, NJ). Noted as Wayne Rhodes age 5 in the 1930 census and also known as Stanley W. Rhodes who was 16 in the 1940 census. Stanley became a composer and wrote the jazz classic, "A Sunday Kind of Love."

In 1940 federal census husband Milton was working as a state highway mechanic and owned a home at Five Mile, Spokane, WA. He also registered for the WWII draft as M.J. Rhodes, identified his wife as Hazel, and as living at Route 7, Spokane, WA. By 1945 the couple resided at Country Home Estates in Spokane, WA where they were still living upon his death in late 1945.

The widowed Hazel was living at same residence in 1947, occupation saleswoman.

Hazel remarried 11 June 1950, in Spokane, to an educator Emery Marvin Blevins (b. 14 Aug 1886, Ashe Co., NC, d. Jan. 1, 1972, Country Home Estates, Spokane, WA, first wife was Eva I. Blevins). At the time of their marriage she was living at Country Home Estates, Spokane and his home was 1724 W.9th Ave., Spokane. In June 1920 he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education and in March 1921 he received his Masters of Arts in Education, both from Washington State University (then College). His home address at both these occasions was listed as Oakesdale, Washington.

Emery & Hazel had lived at E.1637 Gordon Ave., Spokane, WA at one point. In 1958 they were still in Spokane where Emery was the assistant principal at the Northwest Christian School in Spokane.

At Hazel's death at the age of 90 she had outlived her only son by 3 years and both her spouses. Her remains are interned at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, Spokane, WA, Grave/Space 11, Lot/Sect. 68, Lawn 106, adjacent to first husband Milton Rhodes. Her plot was said to have been purchased by Emery Blevins. (The location of her son's ashes remains is unknown).
