Enlisted, May21, 1918, at Camp Devens, MA. He was assigned to Battery D, 301st Field Artillery 76th Division. after training at Camp Devens, MA, the 301st Field Artillery shipped out for Europe, July 16, 1918, from Boston, MA. He saw combat in France and returned to the States, July 27, 1919, aboard the USS Martha Washington, docking at Hoboken, NJ. Discharged as a Corporal from the service, August 1, 1919, at Mitchell Field, LI, NY.

Post World War, enlisted, March 14, 1922, in Troop C, 51st Machine Gun Squadron ( Squadron A ), NYNG, in New York City. On April 26, 1922 the Squadron acted as escort to Marshall Joffre. He was discharged from the 51st Machine Gun Squadron, March 14, 1924.
