Mrs. Nora O'Connor Ball, a Gold Star Mother of World War I, mother also of a Spanish-American War veteran and grandmother of veterans of World Wars I and II, died yesterday in her home at 1 Post Street at the age of ninety-two. She was the widow of Thomas Ball, a former Yonkers hotelkeeper. Mrs. Ball, who was brought to Yonkers by her parents 80 years ago from her native County Kerry, Ireland, was a daughter of Daniel O'Connor, a retired Royal British Navy man, and Nancy Noughton O'Connor. She was the mother of Corporal William E. Ball of the 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, who was killed in the Hindenburg Line on Sept. 25, 1918. He was the holder of the Distinguished Service Cross and had been decorated before his death. His body was one of the first brought back to Yonkers after the war and buried with military honors in a funeral conducted by John J. Flynn, a fellow overseas serviceman. Fort Slocum officers, mounted cavalrymen, a caisson and other military equipment were in the cortege. Her son, Harry J. Ball, served in the Spanish-American War. One of her grandsons served in the first World War and five in the second. Surviving besides her son, Harry, are two other sons, Thomas V. Ball, an employe of Alexander Smith and Sons Carpet Company and president of Local 122, Textile Workers of America, CIO, and Fred W. Ball; a daughter, Mrs. Bonnie Graver of Yonkers; six grandchildren, among them the Rev. William Everett Kelly of St. Joseph's Church here, and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Ball received her early education in School Six. In 1875, she was married to Mr. Ball, who owned and operated two hotels - one on Main Street and one on North Broadway - for some 35 years before his death on Sept. 16, 1922. Mrs. Ball was a member of the Auxiliary of Post 7, American Legion. She was a communicant of St. Peter's Church.
