Born in Aurora, Ill., on Dec. 1, 1952, he was the son of the late Leslie and Anna Thorson Stone.
Gary served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was employed for the last 25 years as a research scientist at the National Institutes of Health. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Frederick. He was active with Boy Scout Troop 1066 and Cub Scout Pack 1066. An avid and talented woodworker, Gary has left fond remembrances of himself with family and friends through the many handcrafted gifts he shared over the years.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, Sarah Stone of Lexington Park, and Joseph and Jonathan Stone, both at home. He is also survived by siblings Leslie, Keith, Manny, Bonnie, Kevin and Nancy; and an aunt, Bonnie Thorson.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of funeral services at noon Saturday, March 27, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1415 W. Seventh St., Frederick. Pastor Ron Reaves will officiate. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his sons' education fund c/o Linda Stone, 2906 Jefferson Pike, Jefferson, MD 21755.
