Leonard “Lenny” Aamold, 98, of Mayville, ND died Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the Luther Memorial Home in Mayville.

Leonard was born March 28, 1918 in Portland, ND to Albert and Anna (Heskin) Aamold. He attended and graduated from the Portland High School in 1936.

On September 28, 1940, Lenny married Myrtle Vinje in Neilsville, MN. Lenny held several jobs in Portland. He worked for Haugom Hardware, served as Postmaster and had his longest career with Gunderson Heating and Air Conditioning.

Lenny enlisted in the US Army in 1942 and attended pre induction courses in communications at the University of North Dakota. He entered active duty in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theatre.

Lenny was a lifetime member of Aurdal Lutheran Church in Portland and served multiple terms as a City Councilman and Mayor.

He is survived by his sons: Allen (Adela) and Gary (Faye); six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Leonard is preceded in death by his four younger siblings: Shirley Boyer, Eunice Klabo, Beverly Carlson and Carol Mix.
