Topton - Rev. Beuford Owenby, 92, of the Nantahala community, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005.

A native and lifelong resident of Macon County, he was the son of the late C.B. "Tump" and Emma Grant Owenby and the husband of the late Vera Cochran Owenby, who died Nov. 8, 1997. He was a carpenter and a Baptist minister pastoring several churches in Cherokee, Macon and Swain Counties. He was a member of Red Marble Baptist Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Postell and her husband, Ray, of Andrews; two sons, Verden Owenby and his wife, Joyce, and Pearly Owenby and his wife, Elaine, all of Andrews; two sisters, Carlene Grant and Genessa Owenby, both of Nantahala; stepbrother, Verles Whishon of Nantahala; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Red Marble Baptist Church with Revs. France Postell, Mickey Stewart, and Gene Bryant officiating. Interment will be in Briartown Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby, Keith, Timmy and J.D. Owenby, Darrell Warlick, Thomas Roper and David Postell. Nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews, where the body will be until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.

The family requests memorials be made to the Briartown Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, in care of Juanita Dewessee, 19292 Wayah Road, Aquone, NC 28781.

Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews, is in charge of arrangements.
