Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 26, 2011 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, with Rev. Jerry Conner officiating. Burial will follow in the Humboldt Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service.
Howard was born February 8, 1925 in Yell County, Arkansas, the son of Otis and Sally Ashland Watkins. He married Jeanette Annabelle McNary in Arcola on Nov. 2, 1946; she preceded him in death on August 23, 1991. He later married Gettie Davis on Oct. 25, 1999 and she survives.
Survivors include his wife Gettie Watkins; 4 daughters, Lynda Donnals and Roberta (Bobbie) Eveland; Cecilia Butts and June Wood; 1 brother, Otis Watkins; 5 sisters, Polly Tero and Lavena Warren; Juanita Faust, Margaret Richardson, and Josephine McGraw; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.
Howard had retired from farming and later worked as a night watchman. He was a member of the Maryland Baptist Church in St. Joseph, Louisiana. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II.
