Sgt. Thomas H. Davis Dies of Wounds

LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. -- Sgt. Thomas H. Davis died in France May 20 following a gunshot wound received March 20 while on duty with the U.S. First Army in Germany.

Sergeant Davis entered the service in November, 1942,and trained at Camp Rucker, Ala., and Camp McCoy, Wis., before going overseas in May, 1944. Having been assigned to the First Army in France a few days after D-Day, he was wounded at St. Lo on July 25, 1944.

He was hospitalized at Birmingham, England, until October 17, 1944 at which time he was released to return to his former outfit.

After joining his old outfit, the Eighth Infantry Regiment of the Fourth Division, on November 12, 1944, he was engaged in active combat until time of receiving the fatal wound.

Sergeant Davis, a graduate of the 1939 class at Lawrence Couinty High School and a member of the local Church of Christ, was employed by Salant and Salant, Inc., before entering the army.

Survivors include his wife, the former Nelle Brewer of Iron City, one daughter Brenda, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Davis of Lawrenceburg, one brother, Pfc. Hugh Edward Davis of the U.S. Army Finance Department, stationed at Camp Wheeler, Ga.
