Henry P. Sawyer - Born in West Cambridge, Mass. Son of Isaac P. Sawyer. A resident of St. Johnsbury. Age nineteen years. Enlisted in Company K, 15th Regiment, August 28, 1862. Mustered into United States service October 22, 1862. Re-enlisted as a recruit in Company A, 11th Regiment, November 30, 1863. Mustered into United States service December 12, 1863. Taken prisoner on Weldon Railroad June 23, 1864. In Andersonville prison five months and three days, Was in action, while connected with the 11th Regiment, at Spottsylvania, Cold Harbor and Petersburg. Transferred to Company D June 24, 1865. Mustered out of service August 25, 1865. United states bounty, $325; from the town of St. Johnsbury, $325. [Soldiers' record of the town of St. Johnsbury, VT 1883]
