Professional Hockey Player. A native of Berlin (later Kitchener), Ontario, Canada, he played the position of Defense for the National Hockey League's New York Rangers from 1931 to 1946. As a member of the New York Rangers hockey team for 15 years he was the teams captain, was instrumental in leading that team to the 1939 to 1940 Stanley Cup Championships, and was part of the famous "blueline" with Babe Siebert and Ching Johnson. He was also one of the first players to be able to carry the puck on the ice on a regular basis. The 6'00, and 195lbs, Heller also played for the Kitchener Greenshirts from 1928 to 1929, Springfield Indians from 1929 to 1932, St. Paul Saints from 1941 to 1946, New Haven Ramblers from 1946 to 1948, Indianapolis Capitols from 1948 to 1952, New Haven Nutmegs from 1952 to 1953, Kitchener Dutchmen from 1952 to 1953, Cleveland Barons from 1952 to 1953, Marion Barons from 1953 to 1954, Valleyfield Braves from 1954 to 1955, Cleveland Barons from 1954 to 1955, and the Chatham Maroons from 1955 to 1956. Heller also coached the Indianapolis Capitols from 1948 to 1952 in the AHL, and the Valleyfield Braves from 1954 to 1955 in the QHL. He retired from professional hockey in 1956.His honours include being a member of the 1941 NHL Second All-Star Team, the 1947 AHL Second All-Star Team, the 1948 AHL First All-Star Team, and the 1954 IHL Second All-Star Team. He died in his hometown of Kitchener, two weeks after his 70th birthday.
