BIOGRAPHY: History of Waukesha Co., Wis. page 984 "JAMES S. DENT, a prominent citizen of Menomonee, was born in Hornellsville, Steuben Co., N. Y.l , Aug. 1, 1831; he came to Wisconsin in 1842 with his parents, Richard and Jean Dent; they settled in the town of Menomonee, Waukesha Co., WI where they resided during their life. He married in Granvile, Milwaukee Co., on the 5th of February 1863, Lemyra J. Oliver; she was born in Orleans Co., N.Y. and was the daughter of John and Elizabeth U. Oliver, who settled in the town of Lisbon, in about 1846, and are now reisdents of Waukesha; they have five children living - Andrew B., Willis J.., Alice, Elmer, and Sylvie; in 1861, Mr. Dent was Assistant United States marshall and in 1876, was a member of the Wisconsin Assembly, and Chairman of the Menomonee Town Board twice, Assessor several terms, and has several other offices; he owns 120 acres of land and is a successfull and leading farmer; his farm is on Sec. 17, is well improved and only a short distance from Menomonee Falls, his post office address; Mr. Dent is an active and consistent supporter of the principles of the Republican party; in every position he has filled, he has given universal satisfaction to his constituents and to the people in general."

OBITUARY: Waukesha Freeman May 31 1906 "HON. JAS. S. DENT'S DEATH. Passed Away Suddenly last Wednesday Afternoon. Last Wednesday afternoon at his home on Randall St. occurred the death of Hon. James S. Dent, aged 75 years of heart disease. His health had not been good for some time and there had been a gradual failing of the vital forces, through (sic) there was no fears entertained on the part of his family and friends that the dread message would so soon appear.

James S. Dent was a native of Steuben Co., N.Y. whence he came with his parents to Wisconsin, and the family took up a temporary home on the Nickell farm one mile west of this city. A year later, in 1843, they moved to Menomonee town and there the deceased continued to make his home on a farm until 1888, in that year becoming a resident of his city.

He was married to Miss Lemyra J. Oliver, daughter of John Oliver, a pioneer of the town of Lisbon, February 5, 1863, and she, together with three sons, survive him. The sons are Andrew B. of Waco, Tex.; Willis J. of Minneapolis, and Elmer J. of Relience, S. D. Mr. Dent was quite active in county political circles and held numerous positions of public trust. He was chairman of the town of Menomonee several terms and also assessor for many years. In 1861 he was appointed deputy United States marshal and in 1875 was elected assemblyman from the Second district of the county. He also served as supervisor of the second ward of this city. Mr. Dent was a man of large acquaintance and generally respected and esteemed. The funeral took place Friday morning from the family home, rev. W. P. Leek officiating. The remains were taken to Sunnyside cemetery, Menomonee, for interment."
