Son of John Gainus "Jackson" & Mary "Polly" (CUMMINGS) HAMER. Married 03 SEP 1865 in Muscogee County, Georgia, to Addie PARKER. #14 on Hanna survey: "Large raised marble slab: William J. HAMER / Aug. 31, 1842 / June 22, 1930 / One precious to our hearts has gone / The voice we loved is stilled / The place made vacant in our home / Can never more be filled. / Our Father in his wisdom called / The boon His love had given, / And though on earth the body lies / The soul is safe in Heaven." Known to some in the family as Uncle Billy, according to descendant Ernest BOLAND, who says he "was wounded in both legs during the Civil War. He also lost the sight in one eye, and had a lot of trouble from these wounds the rest of his life. He applied for a pension in 1903 and received it." He is known to have received it through 1907, and presumably until his death in 1930. Farmer and father of at least three children.
