Mr. Philip Babb Purtlebaugh, 87, of Boyce, VA; died Tuesday at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center, Winchester, VA.

Mr. Purtlebaugh, born in Winchester, VA; was the son of the late Walter Eugene and Bertha Laura Scrivener Purtlebaugh and the widower of Charlotte Maxine Legge Purtlebaugh who he married Feb. 25, 1956 in Hagerstown, MD. and died Dec. 19, 2011. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Mervil "Jim" , Virgil "Sam", Michaael "Mike" and Eugene "Pete" Purtlebaugh and sisters, Deborah Rodger, Inda Purtlebaugh, Rosalyne "June" Kernsand Ethel Claycomb, and two grandchildren, Heather Gearheart and Robert Gearheart III.

He served his country in the United States Navy from 1945-1950. Hunting, fishing and gardening were some of his favorite hobbies as well as jigsaw puzzles. He loved to read about the frontier days and the wild west.
