John had a private pilots license and loved flying and had his own plane.
After he had a pace maker implanted he wasn't able to fly anymore but still kept his plane, perhaps in the hope that one day he would fly it again!
He also liked Amateur Radio, (Ham Radio), and held a general class FCC license with the call sign KA0JDT. With this he could talk to fellow ham radio operators all around the world!
He liked to go to Hamfests, (basically flea markets for Ham radio enthusiasts), where you could often buy used and new amateur radio equipment. One mans "junk" is another mans treasure! lol
He also liked to help setup equipment with other radio clubs and friends for Amateur Radio field day, a day when Amateur radio operators would setup make shift antennas and equipment, sometimes in open fields with gas generators, to communicate with other hams all over the world as a test of their capability's for emergency preparedness!
He loved to take stuff apart to see what made "it tick!" He had a pretty good mechanical and electrical aptitude and could fix or repair lots of stuff!
When once confronted with a 900+ dollar repair job for replacing some stuff on his vehicle by a Ford dealership. He found a Youtube video and followed that and repaired it himself for about 150 bucks!
He loved surfing the internet and playing with computers and had some that he interfaced to his Ham radio equipment in his Ham shack!
He was always willing to help a person in fixing a software or hardware problem they might have.

He loved retirement!
After his retirement he loved to go out to eat with some of his fellow retired friends, which usually was on Thursdays! Each person would take turns picking a restaurant and that person would buy for the group.
One thing about John is he loved Spicy foods! The hotter the better!
Rarely did you find a pepper or a sauce that was too hot for him!
There was a few ocassions though when you could see he met his match by the sweat starting to build on his brow and his eyes tearing up! lol
He sometime would grow his own peppers in a small garden at his home.
He also owned a cat which he loved. Said it would drag a blanket off the couch and over to him when it was "time for bed!" lol

He loved to travel and had a great time on his last trip to Hawaii, going on different tours and even took a submarine ride!
He had talked about maybe going to Australia and New Zealand on a future vacation.

He will be greatly missed! R.I.P. John
