Cynthia Hayes was the daughter of Nathan Hayes (1788-1871) and Eunice Emma Hayes. She married John Adamson and moved to Tillsonburg around 1850. They and had at least two children, one of whom was Nathan Adamson (named after his grandfather Nathan Hayes). Cynthia's husband John died in 1852, and then after she died in 1855, their children were raised by Cynthia's parents.
