Wilkes was a graduate of the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, Mo. and was retired from Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical as a ceramic engineerJames Roy Wilkes, a resident of Holiday Island, was born Jan. 31, 1928 in Mayfield, Ken., a son of Gardner and Lavergne (Lowery) Wilkes. He died Sunday, Sept. 10, peacefully at home with family.

Wilkes was a graduate of the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, Mo. and was retired from Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical as a ceramic engineer. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict.

He married Doris Marie (Dalrymple) Wilkes on Jan. 20, 1951. He is survived by three children, Jeffrey Wilkes of Apple Valley, Minn., Jennifer Wilkes and Jill Hazen, both of N. Canton, Ohio.

Memorial funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Holiday Island Community Church with Pastor Fran Dale officiating. Interment will be in the Holiday Island Community Church Memorial Garden. Memorial donations may be made to St. John's Hospice, 214 Carter, Berryville, AR 72616.
