James Burbidge Best is the son of John Burbidge Best (1773-1851) and his second wife Mary Burbidge (1780-1852). James was christened on 10 February 1804 at St. John's Anglican Church. He was likely born in Cornwallis Township, Kings County, Nova Scotia in late 1803 or early 1804. The family Bible lists his birthdate as 5 November 1804, which appears to be an error given the christening date citied by Eaton in the History of Kings County. He married Eunice Ann Durland / Durling circa 1828 as cited in the Dorland Enigma. Their first known child, George Leander Best was born on 7 November 1828.
