Funeral services to celebrate the life of Larry “Scary Larry” Dyer, 52, a resident of Davenport, will be 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, downtown Davenport. His family will greet friends at the funeral home from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Honoring his wishes join Scary Larry’s family on his ultimate ride, concluding at Club Mokan. Larry lost his fight Friday, October 3, 2014, after a courageous two year battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends at his residence in Davenport
Larry Hugh Dyer was born on February 25 1962 in Davenport, a son of Donald A. “Skeeter” and Frances (McFate) Dyer. He was united in marriage to Mary Walther on November 10, 2012 in Davenport.
Larry had worked many years as a certified pool technician before working for the Comfort Inn and Suites in Davenport. He enjoyed tinkering with things at his home. Scary Larry loved to ride his Harley and cherished being with family and friends and he really loved his ice cream. His courageous battle with a brain tumor over the past two years has been a true inspiration to his friends and family.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
Survivors include his wife Mary, and his sons Joe (Marissa) Dyer and Travell Dyer and a grandson, Isaac Dyer, all of Davenport; his stepchildren; Stacey Walther, Anthony Porter, and Donielle Walther all of Davenport; his sisters, Patricia Parris, and Sherry (Rod) Miller, Iowa City and brothers, Randy “Dolf” (Rhonda Schmidt) Dyer, Davenport, Rick (Karen) Dusenberry, Sac City, IA, Carl (Sheila) Etting, Nixon, MO and Howard Dusenberry, WA, ; his mother and father-in-law, Marilyn (Arnold) Williamson of Davenport and James Walther, Kansas City, as well as numerous loving extended family members and friends and was always considered to be an honorary Ranch Rider. He was preceded in death by his parents.
