Martin Atherton, 89, of Greenville died June 4, 2008, at his residence. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Family Fellowship Church. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Peters Funeral Home.

Martin "Lucky" Richard Atherton, 89, of Greenville, died June 4, 2008, at his residence. Services are at 2 p.m. today in Family Fellowship Church with the Rev. Paul Blue and Rev. Rick Blue officiating. Burial follows in Forest Park Cemetery under the direction of Peters Funeral Home.
Martin was born Nov. 23, 1918, in Silo, Okla., son of Will Paschal and Roberta "Byrd" Martin Atherton. He married Opal Marie Swindell in Fort Worth on July 13, 1938. Martin retired from J.P. McNatt Motor Company as a mechanic. He served as a deacon at Family Fellowship Church, formerly Lamar Baptist, where he was a member. He also helped coach and manage baseball in the 1950s in Little League and Pony League divisions in Greenville.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years; a daughter, Carolyn Brown of Greenville; sons Don and Barbara Atherton and Bob and Ellen Atherton, all of Greenville, six grandsons, Alan Brown, Woodrow Martin Atherton, Bobby Claude Atherton Jr., Jason Ray Atherton, Bradley Don Atherton, and Michael Martin Atherton; 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and one sister-in-law, Grace Atherton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Pauline Bell, Evelyn Stevens and Helen Atherton; and one brother, Robert Atherton.
Memorials may be made to Family Fellowship Church, 401 Division Street, Greenville, Texas 75401.
