Howie served in the Army Air Force during World War II.
His lifelong dream was to see the Chicago Cubs win a World Series and he was a card carrying member of the Chicago Cubs Left Field Bleacher Bums in 1969 (he was known as Big Daddy to the Bums). He loved bowling and was still bowling in two leagues at age 84. In his spare time he drew cartoons. His great sense of humor and gentle nature is much missed by his family and friends.
