Mirl William Johnston, 74, of Grampian, who died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000 at his residence.

Born Dec. 7, 1925, in Mahaffey, he was the son of William Harry and Margaret Pink (Dickey) Johnston.

Mr. Johnston retired in 1990 from Spencer Land Co. as a heavy equipment operator.

he was a naval veteran of World War II.

he was a member of the Grampian Church of God, the Grampian Lions Club, the Grampian-Penn-Bloom Fire Co., and was a charter member of the Anderson Creek Sportsman's Club, Grampian RD.

On Nov. 20, 1948 in Clearfield he wed the former Mary Avonelle Hatten, who survives.

Also surviving are his mother of New Millport; a daughter, Mrs. Kathryn L. Mandetta and her husband, Dr. Donald Mandetta, of Boalsburg; three sons, James W. and his wife, Nancy of Grampian, Daniel M. and his wife Maureen, of Mahaffey, and Darren L. and his wife, Lannette, of State College; seven grandchildren; a brother, Lewis Johnston of Lewistown; and a sister, Mrs. Norma Norris of New Millport.

He was preceded in death by his father; a daughter, Janet l. Johnston and a brother, Carl Johnston.
