The last name was Gaertner, Gartner, and finally "americanized" to Gardner.
*Some records inicate her second name to be Kashilde, but son Ernest filled out her death cert., & Wrote Matilda*

Passed Away at Home of Her Son, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Haase
Funeral services for Mrs. Maria Haase, were held at the Eickhoff Funeral
Home in Cole Camp at 1:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon and at Trinity Lutheran
Church, Mt. Hulda, Rev. F.A. Hertwig, Jr. pastor, officiated

Pallbearers were: Rudy, Louis, Albert and Lawrence Haase and Lonnie and Herman Gardner.
She was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church by the Rev.F. Theodor Miessler.
December 8, 1878 she united in marriage to Mr. John Haase.
10 sons were born, 3 dying in infancy.
The couple resided on a farm near Cole Camp.

Mrs. Haase enjoyed exceptionally good health and was known for her
remarkable endurance. She often walked to church on Sunday morning to attend services at Mt. Hulda even at her advanced age.

She became ill several weeks ago and departed this life at 4:00 o'clock
Thursday afternoon, December 20, at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 12 days.

She leaves to mourn her passing, five sons,
Claus Haase of Cole Camp;
Herman Haase of Chilhowee, Mo.;
Dick, Ernest and William Haase, all of Cole Camp.
Fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren

Her hair turned white prematurely, when she was young it was light to medium brown and slightly curly. Many of her descendants, male & female, carry the trait to be prematurely white haired.
