DRINKING COMPANION INDICTED IN FATAL BEATING OF CARETAKER

A man who allegedly killed his companion during a drinking party was indicted for first degree manslaughter Wednesday by the Hennepin Co. Grand Jury.

Cecil C. Wood, 41, 1530 La Salle Av., signed a statement admitting the attack on Carroll A. Adams, 54, caretaker in the building where Wood lived, according to Co. Atty. George M. Scott.

Another resident of the apartment building, Elizabeth M. Homme, told the Grand Jury that Wood and Adams were drinking together before the fight began Monday.

Adams was found dead in his apartment with severe head bruises and cuts. Wood reportedly used only his fists in attacking the victim, but Adams apparently cut his face when he fell on a broken drinking glass.
