MINNEAPOLIS -- Bruce W. Barefield, 67, of Minneapolis, Kan., died unexpectedly on Monday, May 30, 2016, at his home. He was born Oct. 28, 1948, in Topeka, to Robert Boyd and Marilyn O. (Price) Barefield.
Bruce was a 1967 graduate of Minneapolis High School and then attended Kansas State University from 1967-71. He served his country for two years in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Bruce earned his law degree from Washburn University in 1976. He and Karen Thompson were united in marriage on Dec. 30, 1974. They joined Robert Barefield at the Barefield Law Office in Minneapolis in 1976 and practiced for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Karen, of the home; daughters Gisela Grigg and husband Steve, of Minneapolis, and Andrea Barefield, of Las Vegas, Nev.; brother, Russell Barefield and wife Melanie, of Minneapolis; sister, Robin Barefield Munsey and husband Mike, of Kodiak, Ark.; and two grandchildren, Tyler and Kaysie Grigg, both of Minneapolis.
Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Friday, June 3, at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 4, at First Presbyterian Church, Minneapolis. Burial, with military honors, will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Minneapolis High School Alumni Scholarship Fund and may be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis 67467.
