James Fleming Gates, age 89 of Springfield, MO, died October 24, 2006, at Primrose Place Healthcare Center in Springfield, MO. He was the son of the late James Gates and the Hucie (Shugart) Gates.
He was a Pearl Harbor survivor and served 24 years of active duty in the Air Force, retiring in 1963.
He was a member of Battlefield First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty Gates; two step-daughters, Connie Powers of Springfield, MO, and Sandra and Art Mase of Springfield, MO; step-son, Randall Yeager of Springfield, MO; one sister, Lucie Catherine Hagins of Fordyce, AR; and one brother, Bill and Phyllis Gates of Memphis, TN.
Arrangements are being handled by Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Springfield, MO; friends may visit October 26, 2006, at the funeral home. Graveside service will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery October 27, 2006, Reverend Ray Smith officiating. Miltary honors by Whiteman Air Force Base, Knob Noster, MO.
