Ronald L. "Ron" Abel, Sr., 77, died on May 20, 2016, at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. He was the husband of Kathy J. (Manfredi) Abel. Together they celebrated 22 years of marriage.
Born on November 2, 1938 in Wrightsville, he was the son of the late Paul L. and Helen A. (Drake) Abel.
Ron was a meat cutter for Acme Markets for 44 years. He was a 1956 graduate of Eastern York High School and the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, Ohio.
Ron was a 50-year Mason, a member of the Eastern York School Board, the Wrightsville Municipal Authority and served on Borough Council. He was a member of the Wrightsville Fire Dept., the Elks Club, and the Abel-Poff-Leithiser American Legion Post 469. Ron was a boy scout.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Ronald L. Abel, Jr. and his wife Judy of Seven Valleys; son, Douglas A. Abel and his wife Jeanne of Kansas City, Mo.; daughter, Barbara A. Vetsch and her husband Stephan of Littleton, Colo.; son, Matthew A. Russ and his wife Tiffani of Wrightsville; six grandchildren, Lisa, Jessica, Lauren, Victoria, Elizabeth and Mickenzie; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 12 Noon at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 700 Hellam St., Wrightsville, with Pastor Charlie Gross officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. A visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation , 4811 Jonestown Road #230, Harrisburg, PA 17109; or to the Masonic Homes, 1 Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
