Edith Marie Winter

1926-2006

Edith Marie Winter, age 80, passed peacefully to be with our Lord and Savior Saturday, October 21, 2006. Edith died after a valiant battle with heart disease and diabetes. She was born on January 3, 1926 to Louis Alto and Annie Bell Boyington and lived in Pensacola, FL.

Our mother was loved by all who knew her. She was an outgoing and generous woman. She was a devoted wife and mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her faith in the Lord and her love of family were what she held most dear. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank Carr Winter; her parents, and her sisters, Agnes N. Fisher and Doris A. Pitts.

Survivors include her son, Gregory D. Winter and his wife, Beth of Gulf Breeze; her daughter, Paulette W. Burton and her husband, Henry of Pensacola; her granddaughter, Kendall M. Burton and her fianc, Jeffrey Steven Hunley of Pensacola; her grandson, Russell T. Burton of Orlando. Also, her precious great-granddaughter, Taylor Alexis Hunley, was a joy to her during the previous ten months.

Other survivors include her beloved sister-in-law, JoAnne Proescholdt of Santa Ana, CA and her devoted nieces, Beverly Solchenberger and Janice Christian. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as her friends too numerous to mention. Many of her friendships were made during her twenty years as an Escambia County Food Service Manager at Bellview elementary.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Road, with Pastor Bud Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends at Oak Lawn at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Following the funeral, a luncheon celebrating Edith's life will be provided by the Myrtle Grove Baptist Church, 5920 Lillian Hwy and gracious friends. If you are planning to join the processional to the 2:00 p.m. service at Barrancas National Cemetery, The processional will leave the church at 1:15 when the luncheon concludes.

Should friends desire to make donations rather than send flowers, envelopes for Edith's favorite charities will be available at the guest registry. Edith supported Myrtle Grove Baptist Church, 5920 Lillian Hwy (32506); Wesley Haven Villa, 111 E. Wright Street (32501), and Covenant Hospice, Inc., 2001 N. Palafox Street. We wish to thank Dr. Andrea Hackel and Dr. Luis Navas and their staff for the professional and compassionate care during her long-term illness. We especially wish to thank the staff of Wesley Haven Villa, our mother's delightful Assisted Living Facility for the loving and tender care she received during the final year of her life. The staff and residents have become permanent members of our family. We also wish to thank the dedicated group of professionals of Covenant Hospice, Inc. for their love and support during and after her illness.

Honorary pallbearers will be Edna Cook, Joyce Glaze, Bob Drumm, Mary Smith, Melba Ard, Betty James, Dot Comerford, Bertice (Bert) McLeod, Evelyn VanDerLike, and Mavis Strozier. Also special thanks to the members of the Alpha Sunday School Class.
