Eleanor Blanche Jay was born on April 8, 1910, in Lynnville, Iowa, the daughter of Homer Page Jay and Lula Mae (Trease) Jay. She was reared in Lynnville and graduated from Lynnville High School in the Class of 1928. She attended the old Central Iowa Business College in Marshalltown until her marriage.

Eleanor married James Burk Hart on May 10, 1930, in Marshalltown, Iowa. She worked at Kresge's, a five and ten cent department store on Main Street until their son, Jim, was born. Eleanor then operated restaurants with her husband.

She was a member of Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church, a member of the Marshalltown chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Rebekah Lodge. Later in life, she was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the Alpha Iota Honor Society of AIB.

After John passed away, Eleanor lived in a hotel in Des Moines where she attended and graduated from AIB, the American Institute of Business, in 1965. Then she was a bookkeeper for the R.D. Stewart Construction Company, a lumber company in Marshalltown. Eleanor married widower William B. "Bud" Hewitt on May 26, 1967. He passed away in 1977 and is also buried at Rose Hill Cemetery with his first wife, Rachel, who died in 1965.

Eleanor Blanche Hart Hewitt passed away unexpectedly at home in Marshalltown on July 25, 1973. She was preceded in death by her first husband, her parents, and 3 brothers.

Arrangements were by and Visitation was at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 27, at Grace United Methodist Church, with Rev. Henry Riegel in charge.
