With thanks and praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Bernie for his service to our country during the Korean War era. As part of the U.S. Army, he proudly served from 1954 to 1958 and attained the rank of Specialist 2nd Class. For Bernie's valiant example of patriotism and bravery, we extend our posthumous gratitude for his willingness to stand in harm's way for the cause of freedom, for both America and our allies around the world.
Bernie received his degree and was credentialed as an architect, working many years as a City Planner for the City of Warren, Michigan. Of course, this didn't come without a considerable amount of studying and education, all of which began by completing his high school education as a member of the Class of '54 from Ford City High School in Pennsylvania, located in the city of his birth and where he was raised and grew to maturity. Following his return from the military and guided by a vision & dream, Bernie decided to resume his education,...this time choosing to attend the prestigious University of Detroit where he majored in Architecture and graduated in 1964. From there he entered the Urban Planning program at Wayne State University in Detroit, and graduated in 1966. With these credentials in hand and a professional career well under way, Bernie derived great satisfaction from interacting with his fellow planner's and architect's which translated into his becoming a member of both the American Institute of Architect's (AIA), and the American Planning Association (APA). From a more charitable side of Bernie, he was proud to be a member of the iconic Kiwanis Club of Warren, of which he was honored to have served as a distinguished past President.
Bernie was the beloved husband of June Marie (nee: Sinden) for over 50 years. Dearest father of Mark (Carol) Lynden , Paul (Caroline) Lynden, and John (Karen) Lynden. Loving brother of George (Carol) Lysakowski of New Castle, Pennsylvania; Anastasia (the late Joseph) Makosewski of Ford City, Pennsylvania; Jan (Sandra) Lysakowski of Ford City, Pennsylvania, and the late Marion Lysakowski. Cherished grandfather of 10.
Visitation for Bernie will be held Monday, March 28th from 3-9 pm, with a 3pm ACWC Rosary and a 7pm Scripture Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. He will lie in state on Tuesday from 9:00 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 9:30 am at St. Martin dePorres Catholic Church, 31555 Hoover Road in Warren. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan.
