John Henry Shuck, son of Milton Casper and Sadie Ellen King Shuck, was born February 15, 1915, near Chester, Oklahoma. He departed this life on Friday, April 16, 1999, at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was 84 years of age, 2 months and one day.
He was raised in the Chester community and attended rural schools. He attended high school at Richmond in Woodward County and graduated from Richmond High School with the class of 1935. He attended the Elm Grove Assembly Of God Church in Woodward County with his family. On January 31, 1941, John entered the United States Army and served his country in the European Theatre during World War II. He was in the Reserves and was call back to also serve during the Korean Conflict, on August 15, 1952, he received his honorable discharge. John was a recipient of the Purple Heart from World War II.
On June 8, 1946, at Mooreland, Oklahoma, John and Edra Lois Patterson were united in marriage. They made their first home in Woodward, where he was employed by OG&E as a power plant operator. In 1953, he was transferred to Oklahoma City where he worked 29 years for OG&E, retiring in 1975. Following his retirement, he continued working at service stations in the Oklahoma City area. He also enjoyed playing golf and as a sideline, he repaired golf carts for other golfers. Idleness was not a virtue of John's, so he kept busy picking up litter in his neighborhood. He is survived by his wife, Edra, of the home in Oklahoma City; three daughter: Roenna Gregerson and her husband, R. W., of Oklahoma City, Linda Cooper and her husband, Walter, of McLoud, and Barbara Stacks and her husband, Robert, of Blanchard; one son, Johnny Shuck of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren; one sister, Betty Lue Henderson of Longview, Washington; he is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, James Max, two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 19, 1999, at the Elm Grove Church with pastor Orville White, officaiating. Interment was in the Elm Grove cemetery under the direction of the Redinger Funeral Home.
