Nancy Joan Rakus, 73, of Midland, died Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at her home. She was born March 4, 1943, in Flint, the daughter of the late Henry Harold and Dorthea (Hammond) Lambert.

Nancy was raised in Davison and graduated from Davidson High School In 1961. On September 27, 1975 she was married to Joseph A “Joe” Rakus in Midland. He survives her. She had a great passion for taking care of people, helping to take care of sixty-four foster children through Catholic Family Services over the years. She was an avid crafter and competitor at dog shows having the #9 Smooth Collie in the country named Missy Mouse. Her true joy was being with her family. Nancy played an active role in her children’s lives whether it was Boy Scouting or taking care of the grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Connie (Richard) Trautman, Christopher (Andrea) Passmore, Wendy (David) Alexander, Julie (Greg) Zilinski, Tonya (John) Mclaren, Erik Rakus, Anthony Rakus, and Elizabeth (Scott) Rakus. Fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Charles Lambert.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from the St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church. Father Patrick O’Conner will be the Celebrant. Nancy’s family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass.
